The new HPS servo technology
High power with lower power consumption - how does that work?
To put it simply: At the beginning of a servo movement (start-up behavior), a significantly larger current pulse is sent to the new HPS servo motor for a very short time than with previous servo motors. However, as the servo movement continues, the HPS motors and associated HPS control developed by Futaba engineers require significantly less energy to maintain performance. This results in a significantly lower current draw from the battery over the operating time, i.e. the operating time is noticeably and measurably longer with the same battery. This advantage can only be used if all the necessary boundary conditions are right and all components are optimally matched to each other. The main concern here is the power supply for the receiving system and the servos.
The following information generally applies to every reception position when strong servos are used, but especially when using HPS servos:
The power supply must be optimized in each individual component for all occurring conditions. This applies to the entire chain of functions and starts with the choice of battery and ends with the servo. With the HPS servos, the primary concern is to be able to supply the servo with short-term, high impulse currents (peaks) over the entire functional chain (see starting behavior of the HPS servos), and not necessarily with high continuous currents. Only then can the performance of the HPS servos be fully exploited.
The power supply must be dimensioned in such a way that a constant, continuous power supply is guaranteed and any voltage fluctuations (caused by current peaks) are kept as low as possible in order to prevent receivers or gyros etc. from "rebooting"
